About the Fund
The Open Programme funds a wide range of activities and organisational costs that support the life-chances of children and young people. This includes:
- Core operating costs
- Salary contributions
- Direct project costs
- It is intended to support both established and developing projects and organisations whose work aligns with the Charity’s mission.
Eligibility
- UK registered charities, including Charitable Incorporated Organisations (CIOs) and companies limited by guarantee with charitable status.
- State schools with charitable status and open admissions (independent schools may also qualify if charitable)
Grant DetailsTypical funding levels:
- First-time awards: £10,000–£20,000 per year (for up to 3 years), based on organisation size, needs, and impact potential.
- Repeat grantees: £30,000+ per year and potentially multi-year (up to 5 years) subject to review.
How to apply
- Check eligibility via the JLC eligibility quiz on the Charity’s website.
- Prepare an initial proposal outlining:
- Organisation overview
- Proposed funding amount & duration
- How it supports children/young people’s life chances
- Cost breakdown and budget.
- Submit via JLC online grants portal (link provided on Open Programme page).
- If positive, the process moves to a two-stage application with further review and final decision by Trustees.
- Expect several months for full review (often 6–10 months) before final award decisions are confirmed.
