About the Fund

  • The programme funds projects addressing poverty and social deprivation, with a focus on vulnerable groups including women, children, and young people.
  • Projects should align with at least one priority theme: poverty and deprivation, support for women, or services for at-risk children and youth.
  • Funding can be used to support project delivery and core organisational costs rather than large capital expenditure.

Eligibility

  • Registered charities and nonprofit organisations delivering community support projects in Scotland.
  • CICs, community organisations, and social enterprises are eligible if they meet the Trust’s criteria and income threshold.
  • All applicants must meet Foundation Scotland’s common eligibility criteria before progressing to Stage 2.
  • Projects must be relevant to the Trust’s priority themes and demonstrate impact on the target groups.

Grant Details

  • Total maximum: £45,000 (over up to three years, with annual awards up to £15,000).
  • Type of costs supported: Revenue and core costs connected to delivering the project outcomes.
  • Restrictions: Not appropriate for very small grants (£5,000 or less) those fall under the Small Grants Programme instead.
  • Income cap: Applicants must have annual income below £1 million (as shown in most recent accounts) to be eligible for the large programme.

How to apply

  • Submit a Stage 1 Enquiry Form via the Foundation Scotland online portal by the deadline (31 March 2026).
  • Review by Foundation Scotland — if the project matches fund criteria, applicants will be invited to Stage 2.
  • Submit full Stage 2 application within four weeks of invitation.
  • Decisions made twice yearly by Volant Charitable Trust trustees (typically in April and October).
  • Funding outcomes announced following final decisions (e.g., decisions for 2026 cohort expected by September 2026).
