Many schools want to offer the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award but don’t have the budget or capacity to get started, especially SEND schools, Alternative Provision (AP), and Pupil Referral Units (PRUs).
That’s where the Access – Additional Needs & Alternative Provision (ANAP) programme comes in. This fund removes key barriers for settings that want to start delivering DofE for the first time.
About the Fund
The ANAP programme is part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) Access Without Limits campaign, funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). It helps schools and settings working with young people with additional needs start delivering the DofE Award, even if they’ve never held a licence before.
Since 2022, the programme has supported over 125 new settings. Of those, 97% said they would not have been able to run DofE without the funding.
What They Want to Fund
The fund supports new DofE delivery centres with everything they need to get started, including:
- A free DofE licence to become a delivery partner
- Equipment and kit for programme delivery
- Training for staff or volunteers
- Support for participation fees, operational costs, and accessibility
The aim is to remove barriers and ensure young people with additional needs can take part in a meaningful personal development programme.
Eligibility
To apply, your setting must:
- Be a state-funded SEND school, Alternative Provision (AP), or Pupil Referral Unit (PRU)
- Be based in England
- Not currently hold a DofE licence (or have had one terminated in the last six months)
Amount Available
There is no fixed grant amount. Support is tailored to your school’s needs and may include:
- Licence costs
- Relevant training
- Equipment and delivery materials
- Participation support for students
