About the Fund
The fund is for VCSE organisations working to help prevent gambling related harm. Organisations will join the Office of Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID), part of the Department of Health and Social Care, and the new prevention commissioner for gambling-related harms in England, to support the development of an independent and public health led approach to preventing gambling related harms.
Using sector expertise, the grant can be used by organisations to carry out interventions they know will reach and support people at risk of gambling related harm, or to implement and test new interventions.
Organisations will play a key role in developing the evidence base over time to enable us to better understand ‘what works’ to prevent gambling related harm, independent of industry
.The key objectives of the Gambling Harms Prevention: to:
(1) Sustain and strengthen the VCSE sector to deliver equitable and innovative prevention strategies.
(2) Build capacity and capability for effective and sustainable project delivery.
(3) Develop an independent, evidence-based approach to public health policy decision making.
Eligibility
Organisations will need to demonstrate the following:
- That they fall into the defined category of a VCSE (voluntary, community and social enterprise) organisation.
- That their activities related to this grant will only be delivered in England (either locally, regionally, or nationally.) Funding must be used only for activity delivered in England.
- That they are intending to carry out a prevention activity under the following categories:
Prevention intervention categories
- Social action
- Awareness
- Education
- Campaign
- Training
- Support for people who gamble / support for affected others
- Gambling blocking tools
- Other / non-clinical recovery
Grant Details
- Maximum per org: £3 million per year, up to £6 million over two years.
- Grants released on an annual basis.
- Funding must be spent by 31 March 2028 (or March 2027 for one-year projects).
- Reporting, outcome data and evidence gathering are expected.
