About the Fund

The purpose of the Alliance is to shift power and money to young people, so they can organise together to create change. This funding is for organisations that already have a track record of supporting youth organising and with Alliance funding would have more impact. It recognises the challenges facing organisations that support youth organising in securing long-term sustainable funding which allows them to focus on their core work – building youth power. The Alliance also recognises that there are many ways that organisations can support young people to organise.

This funding is for organisations that do one or more of the following things

  1. Provide training, coaching, or capacity building specifically for youth organising groups.
  2. Run organising and/or political education training programmes, or leadership development specifically for young organisers or activists.
  3. Offer resources, advice, guidance, tools, or platforms that strengthen youth organising capacity or help new groups to be established.
  4. Facilitate networks or coalitions that connect and strengthen youth organising.
  5. Provide legal, communications, or other specialist support services to young organisers.
  6. Offer fiscal sponsorship, incubation, or infrastructure support for young organiser

Eligibility

The Alliance has identified a number of gaps in support for youth organising and to that end, the Alliance actively encourages applications from organisations that it would ideally like to see in its community mix.

These include organisations that are:

  • Youth-led organisations
  • Supporting organising in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland or in rural areas or small towns in England (what the Alliance calls ‘organising deserts’)
  • Supporting organising led by young people from marginalised and minoritised communities (for example disabled young people)
  • Supporting youth organising that strengthens international solidarity and learning from outside the UK (although this fund is only for UK based organisations).
  • Supporting organisations that engage young people who are new to organising – we recognise this support may need to start with building belonging and supporting wellbeing – before developing leadership and belief in young people’s power to make change

The Alliance will encourage the wider funder community (through the Funder Collaborative for Youth Organising) to support organisations which the Alliance considers to be anchor organisations but it has not chosen to as part of its  7-10 funded organisations.
