About the Fund

The WCIT Charity supports projects that make meaningful use of information technology and relate to one or more of its key priority areas: education, inclusion, technology for charities, and public understanding of technology.

The Charity looks for projects that demonstrate innovative use of technology, can be scaled and replicated more widely, and are sustainable over time.

Funding is more likely to be awarded to the development and delivery of creative new services, solutions, training, apps, analytics, AI, robotics, or bespoke accessibility tools and hardware.

The Charity also prioritises projects where it is the main or sole funder, or the sole supporter of the technology component within a broader initiative.

As all WCIT grants are restricted, recipients are expected to provide formal reports on project outcomes.

The Charity values sharing the impact of its work with its community and often does so through videos, photographs, and case studies that highlight how funded projects have made a difference.

Eligibility

The WCIT Charity funds registered charities and organisations with a formal not-for-profit constitution such as a community interest company. It does not fund individuals or private companies.

Grant Details

Applicants can request up to about £15,000.

For smaller grants (< £5,000) fewer documents required; for larger grants more rigorous documentation.

Projects must be UK-based.

Grants are restricted (not for general core costs) and reporting is required (half-way mark + final report) including outcomes, case study, images/videos.

How to apply

  • Applications are submitted via an online portal (or downloadable Word version then submitted via online form) on WCIT’s website.
  • Prepare required documentation: proof of charitable status or equivalent, audited or independently examined accounts (depending on grant size), safeguarding policy if working with children/vulnerable adults.
  • Submit by deadline; the Committee meets four times yearly (February, May, September, November) to make decisions.
